Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled High Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Domestic Logistics Coordinator to oversee the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation of high hazard chemical shipments within the United States. This role focuses heavily on ISO tank container and bulk tanker truck transportation and requires extensive knowledge of DOT, EPA, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hazardous materials logistics, carrier compliance management, and operational safety.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage domestic transportation of high hazard chemicals via ISO tank containers and tanker trucks.

  • Ensure all shipments meet compliance requirements for DOT (49 CFR), EPA, OSHA, and internal safety policies.

  • Verify correct placarding, labeling, and documentation, including Bills of Lading, SDS, emergency response information, and driver instructions.

  • Schedule and dispatch HazMat-certified carriers, verifying driver qualifications and certifications.

  • Track and trace ISO tanks and tanker trucks, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries.

  • Serve as the liaison between internal teams (production, warehouse, EHS, sales) and external vendors (carriers, tank cleaning stations, terminals).

  • Review and monitor carrier compliance, contracts, and performance metrics to ensure safe handling of high hazard commodities.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve transportation delays, routing changes, equipment issues, or emergencies involving HazMat shipments.

  • Maintain accurate shipment records and documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

  • Coordinate ISO tank container returns, cleaning schedules, and reuse planning.

  • Stay updated on HazMat transport regulations, ISO tank handling procedures, and safety protocols through ongoing training and certifications.

 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred.

  • 3–5+ years of experience in domestic HazMat transportation, specifically with ISO tanks and/or bulk tanker trucks.

  • In-depth understanding of DOT (49 CFR), EPA, OSHA, and FMCSA requirements.

  • Experience working with high hazard classes such as Class 3 flammables, Class 8 corrosives, Class 6 toxics, and Class 2 gases.

  • Familiarity with tank cleaning processes, ISO tank operations, venting procedures, vapor recovery, and bulk unloading.

  • Current DOT HazMat certification required; additional certifications such as IATA or IMDG preferred.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple shipments, and remain calm under pressure in safety-critical situations.

 

 

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with regular coordination with warehouse and field staff.

  • Occasional travel to tank yards, carrier terminals, and cleaning stations.

  • Must be available for after-hours emergencies or urgent shipment issues.

  • Strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance at all times.
