Will service and repair semi-trailers, including box trucks, brakes, lights, seals, refrigeration units and general maintenance to meet DOT standards. Additional duties include replacing flooring, rub rails, doors and door trim, repairs to roofs, panels, nose panels and upper rails.
Duties and Responsibilities: Troubleshoot/perform routine/corrective maintenance for all vehicles including braking systems and hydraulic and air systems for tractors and trailers and for Reefer Techs-refrigeration units. Employee must be able to manage time in repairs and be able to relay those to a service writer, dispatcher, service manager, etc. in the case of being called to perform another call before finished with the current job at hand. Keep all assigned vehicle maintenance files current including all DOT compliance-related documentation for mechanical work performed on transport vehicles. Safely operate company owned motor vehicles, equipment and tractor-trailer unit within terminal premises, and drive equipment safely over roadways to either test drive or deliver to outside shop for repairs and/or to customer’s premises. Prepare and maintain maintenance records in accordance with Company policies, and state and federal regulations. Ability to write, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Make entries on reports and record entries on maintenance records to ensure compliance with regulations. Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times. Wear the proper safety equipment. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications and Job Requirements: Employee must be able to work in all sorts of climate conditions. The necessary safety gear such as rain gear, reflective vests and gloves are provided by the company. Employee must be flexible in available hours to work. Service calls, during normal business hours or after hours cannot always be time specific or convenient. Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the owner, driver or dispatcher are necessary to be able to explain situations, time frames of repairs and costs. Employee must possess the ability to be a self-starter, have the ability to diagnose & determine needed repairs and if they can be performed safely on-sight or if they should be moved to the dealership facility. Must be experienced in welding, electrical, fabrication, sheet metal and mechanical. Diesel engine experience a plus. A positive attitude along with the willingness and ability to learn new skills. Self-motivated and capable of working effectively with little supervision. Valid driver’s license with no restrictions and maintain a good driving record. Good attendance (times may vary per dealership location). Keeps themself groomed and clothed per the dealership guidelines. DOT certified in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes. (Preferred). Must have proper tools.
Physical Demands: regularly required to use hands and fingers, to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Works outside in all kinds of weather conditions such as extreme heat and/or cold, rain, snow and ice; around moving objects, and with vehicles and machinery with moving parts. Frequent exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
