Registration of Outpatient, Pre-Admissions and Admissions to local Medical setting
Sun, Mon and Tues 645p-715a
1. Responsible for obtaining correct patient information, copies of ID and insurance care
when available and tagging patients with correct ID bracelets
2. Perform HDX and/or Blue E eligibility process to verify insurance benefits and coverag
3. Prepare patient admission folder with appropriate forms. Files doctor’s orders and pr<
admission testing results in patient folders
4. Responsible for interviewing patient to obtain necessary data to register appropriate]
and allow patient access to medical care at CarolinaEast Health System
5. Screen each OP Medicare registration for Local Medical Review Policy applicatioi
Cemer is used at this point of registration to determine medical necessity
6. Counselor must scan into Document Management System pertinent information require
by Medical Records. EG: physician’s orders, insurance cards, assignment of benefi
and ABN when applicable
7. Responsible for patient chart such as getting appropriate signatures, orders, attachin
documents to charts and keeping it in proper order for filing
8. Counselors must have excellent interpersonal communication skills to effectively rela
information to patients, physicians and staff
9. Knowledge of applicable regulations, payer rules and compliance issues
10. Validate physician orders to confirm compliance with regulations and department;
policy
11. Collect patient insurance co-payments and deductibles; assist with collecting self- pa
payments as directed by management

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Answer incoming calls into the department
2. Escort patients to ambulatory care or assigned room when necessary. Check on patients
in the treatment area for family members
3. Participate in the clerical activities of Quality Assurance for the Department and for the Document System
4. Perform all other functions with the department as necessary
REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School diploma with additional courses in medical terminology, bookkeeping,
computer use, office machines and ability to work accurately with figures (MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF GRADUATION)
2. Two years in a clerical health care setting preferred
