AppleTree Staffing is seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our engineering clients team on the west side of Indianapolis, focusing on the design, analysis, and development of high-performance composite structures for race vehicles, aerospace, and defense industries. If you have a strong understanding of composite materials and a passion for optimizing structural performance through advanced material technologies, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Engineer and evaluate composite materials and structures for prototype applications across various industries.

  • Material Selection: Partner with suppliers to identify optimal composite materials, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar, based on project requirements.

  • Structural Performance: Perform in-depth analysis and testing to ensure components meet strength, stiffness, and durability standards.

  • Manufacturing Optimization: Collaborate with production teams to enhance composite part fabrication, including refining autoclave curing and lay-up techniques.

  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Supervise static, fatigue, and environmental testing to validate product performance and reliability.

  • Technical Documentation: Create comprehensive design reports, test plans, manufacturing guidelines, and failure analysis assessments.

  • Innovation & Research: Contribute to R&D initiatives aimed at advancing composite materials, improving manufacturing processes, and expanding application possibilities.

  • Team Integration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless project execution and on-time delivery of superior-quality products.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Composite Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 2-5 years in composite materials engineering, preferably in aerospace or racing.

  • Strong knowledge of composite materials, fabrication methods, and industry standards.

  • Proficiency in CAD software for 2D and 3D modeling.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with advanced composite manufacturing (lamination, autoclave curing, part finishing).

  • Knowledge of Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software – 3 and 5-Axis CNC programming.

  • Familiarity with Industrial Control Software – PLC control systems.
