Job Summary
Marion County is seeking a knowledgeable and highly organized Risk Management Coordinator to support and oversee the County’s comprehensive risk management program. This role is responsible for identifying and analyzing risk exposures, coordinating insurance coverage, managing claims, developing risk mitigation policies, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will work closely with Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), Occupational Medical Providers, and internal departments to minimize risk and protect County assets.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and process all risk-related claims, including auto liability, general liability, property damage, and workers’ compensation in compliance with Florida Statutes 440 & 768 and County policies.
Evaluate incoming claims and assign to the appropriate insurer or TPA; provide direction and oversight on claims handling.
Maintain close coordination with the Employee Health Clinic, County Attorney’s Office, and TPA to determine compensability and ensure timely resolution of claims.
Collaborate with the Safety Training & Compliance Manager to identify trends in workplace incidents and recommend preventive strategies.
Develop, update, and maintain insurance schedules (property, auto, and inland marine) and first-party property damage claim files.
Investigate incidents, oversee documentation, and recommend corrective measures to reduce future risk.
Prepare annual state-mandated documentation, performance metrics, benchmark data, and compliance reports.
Administer insurance renewals for County programs (self-insured and fully insured).
Monitor insurance budgets, review invoices, and track expenditures across multiple funds.
Provide technical guidance to County departments and leadership on risk management policies, legal liabilities, and safety measures.
Serve as department representative during mediations, hearings, and official meetings.
Act as liaison to the County’s TPA, monitoring performance, assigning claims, and ensuring service quality.
Support the Risk Manager with departmental oversight and serve as acting representative in their absence.
Participate in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) response during declared emergencies, including site damage assessment.
Provide after-hours on-call support for accident or injury investigations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Human Resources, Public/Business Administration, or a related field.
At least 3 years of progressive experience in risk management, claims handling, or insurance coordination.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid State of Florida driver’s license (required at hire and for continued employment).
Florida Workers’ Compensation Adjuster License preferred.
Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of risk management principles in a public-sector environment.
Familiarity with Florida statutes regarding insurance, liability, and workers’ compensation.
Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
Proficient in developing and delivering reports, presentations, and training to various audiences.
Skilled in managing sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
Capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong focus on collaboration and customer service.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects, interpret legal language, and apply policy effectively.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Primarily sedentary with occasional field work and property assessments.
May be required to lift up to 10 lbs., climb, stoop, or kneel during investigations or inspections.
Will occasionally be exposed to outdoor environments, including inclement weather, mechanical equipment, and potentially hazardous materials.
Additional Information
This position requires a flexible schedule, including availability to respond to emergencies, attend evening meetings, and support after-hours incident investigations as needed.
