Key duties include ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, handling benefits enrollment and changes, and serving as the point of contact for employee inquiries about both payroll and benefits. This role also requires maintaining confidential employee data, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with HR and finance to reconcile data. 

Core responsibilities

  • Payroll processing: Calculate wages, bonuses, and commissions; process new hires, terminations, and changes; and ensure timely and accurate processing of all payroll transactions.

  • Benefits administration: Manage the enrollment, changes, and terminations of employee benefits; administer programs like COBRA; and reconcile vendor invoices for benefit plans.

  • Employee support: Act as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll and benefits questions, providing customer service and resolving issues.

  • Data management: Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in HRIS and payroll systems, including personal and financial data.

  • Compliance and reporting: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations; prepare and distribute payroll and benefits reports to management and employees; and assist with year-end reporting like W-2s.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR and Finance departments to reconcile data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Process improvement: Assist in developing and implementing payroll and benefits policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Technical skills: Proficiency with payroll and accounting software, data processing systems, and HRIS.

  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to resolve payroll and benefits issues.
