- A concrete general laborer performs physical tasks on construction sites to assist in concrete placement and finishing, including preparing sites, digging and leveling earth, mixing and pouring concrete, setting forms and rebar, and cleaning up the work area. This entry-level position requires physical strength, the ability to follow instructions, a commitment to safety protocols, and skills in using hand and power tools.
-Responsibilities and job duties included but not limited to
-Site Preparation:
Digging ditches, leveling earth with shovels and rakes, and clearing sites of debris.
Formwork & Reinforcement:
-Assisting in the building and dismantling of forms, and installing rebar or wire mesh.
-Mixing & Pouring:
Mixing concrete and mortar, and assisting with pouring and spreading concrete.
-Finishing & Curing:
Smoothing and finishing poured concrete using tools like floats and trowels.
-Material Handling:
Loading and unloading materials and tools, and transporting them around the worksite.
-Site Maintenance:
Cleaning tools, equipment, and the overall work area to ensure safety and order.
-Equipment Operation:
Operating various hand and power tools, such as saws, mixers, and power washers.
Skills & Qualifications
-Physical Stamina:
Ability to perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting heavy materials, kneeling, and bending.
-Tool Proficiency:
Experience with common construction tools like shovels, picks, saws, and trowels.
-Safety Awareness:
Knowledge of and adherence to all construction site safety protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
-Teamwork:
Ability to work effectively in a team setting and take direction from supervisors and skilled tradespeople.
-Basic Skills:
Basic arithmetic skills for measurements and the ability to read basic construction specifications.
