Position Title: Material Handler
1st Shift: M-F 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
Pay: 20/hr
Summary of Duties:
- Monitor the manufacturing schedule and jobs at all assigned machines or workstations, as well as the next job staging areas, and make sure parts are moved to the appropriate location so machines are not waiting on material, and staging positions are full if enough jobs are available. This is your primary responsibility and should not require a request from your supervisor to ensure it happens.
- Constantly check all assigned machines for job status, when the next job will be needed, and provide timely updates to your supervisor if goals cannot be met. These checks also provide information needed for schedule updates.
- Update the machine schedule with the current job, the next job planned, and possibly one or two jobs to follow.
- Must be a licensed forklift driver and drive/work safely.
- Follow all company policies, department SOPs, safety procedures, quality procedures, ISO procedures, and other verbal or written instructions.
- Work safely without endangering yourself or others. Coach employees using unsafe practices, and/or alert the supervisor, safety committee member, or management. Use all required PPE.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, or holidays to support production requirements.
- Provide training for new department members as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education/Training/Experience:
- Prefer high school diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently handles and lifts material ranging from 5 to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Loads over 50 pounds, or more than you can safely handle, MUST be done with help from another employee, a forklift, or a crane.
- Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, oil, coolant, or break room/restroom waste is routine. PPE is available and must be used. Overhead doors are frequently open, exposing workers to outdoor elements. Frequently works outside.
- Requires standing or walking most of the time, plus frequent bending and reaching to move material. Frequent use of both hands/arms to move parts or jobs to the next operation. Occasional stooping or climbing is required.
- Must have good vision for close-up work and distance.
- Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and emergency instructions.
Job Skills/Tools Required:
- Thorough understanding of machine schedule, routings/work orders, machines or areas supported, and proper completion of required paperwork.
- Ability to safely use pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and a forklift.
- Ability to understand written or oral instructions, safety rules, company policies, etc.
- Personal Skills:
- Ability to work smoothly with a diverse workforce, including shop employees, supervisors, support personnel, and management.
- Ability to train other employees in safe and efficient methods.
