Medical Lab Technician | Tulsa, OK

Pay: $22-$25/HR

Essential Duties:

  • Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens as directed.  Performs analysis of blood samples in an efficient, accurate manner.

  • Records results on appropriate worksheet and computer system and performs file maintenance.  Processes specimens for send-out testing. 

  • Maintains an adequate supply of reagents and consumables and maintains appropriate records.  Prepares smear and performs differential on peripheral blood smear.

  • Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment as ordered.  Performs other laboratory tests as ordered.  Prepares reagents, stains and other chemical solutions.  Verifies all critical results and documents with accurate follow-up.

  • Processes specimens for Reference Laboratory testing. Performs proficiency testing quarterly.  Assays and analyzes quality control specimens to ensure acceptable patient results. Records results of quality controls daily. Plots results of control runs.  Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and implements necessary remedial action.  Records daily temperature and humidity readings. 

  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated.  Records proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator, and reagents.  Identifies troubleshooting procedures and calls technical services as needed.

  • Implements and complies with safety and quality assurance standards.  Complies with regulatory agency standards.  Adheres to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.  Properly disposes of hazardous materials.

  • Reports abnormal values to physician immediately.  Notifies patients of laboratory results per physician’s request.

  • Accurately charges the encounter forms for laboratory work performed. Logs in and reviews reference laboratory results.

  • Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the laboratory area as needed.  Performs phlebotomy and sample collection procedures as needed.  Maintains confidentially of all information related to patients and medical staff.  

  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:  

  • Employee must be able to perform essential and non essential duties satisfactorily.  

  • The individual must be able to multi-task and have a strong attention to detail.  

  • Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.  

  • Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.  

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

Education and/or Experience:  

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program.  

  • Current certification or registration as an MLT (ASCP), CLT (NCA) or equivalent.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.  Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients.  

  • Employee must have knowledge of Medical Software and Microsoft Office including Word ad Excel.  Strong PC skills and well versed with using Internet applications.
