Our Partners at a leading Manufacturing company in Cleveland Ohio, has an exciting opportunity for a Cost Accountant. This is a dynamic role that will work closely with the Operations Leadership Team to provide accurate product cost, inventory valuation and operational management data to meet or exceed all financial metrics.  


The primary responsibility of this position is to calculate and report on product cost, identify cost variances, determine root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions and process improvements through to the production floor.  This position will work closely with the finance team to provide guidance & support at the site level to ensure accurate and timely cut-offs for all financial periods. This position currently reports directly to the Corporate Controller.


Primary Job Duties:

  • Investigate material, labor, and overhead variances by product line, work order, or cost center; provide recommendations for process improvement.
  • Prepare and analyze Margin/COGS reports; identify fluctuations and provide management with variance explanations (material usage, purchase price, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption)
  • Prepare, process, review, and distribute a variety of daily / weekly / monthly reports such as production activity(absorption), labor utilization, production variances, aging WIP, overtime, inventory buckets/aging, and excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Review and validate BOMs and routings for accuracy in cost structure, coordinate with engineering and production on updates.
  • Monitor inventory movements and position to ensure the accuracy of inventory valuation as reported in the subledger.
  • Assist with Month-end closing and reporting, including preparation of closing entries, GL account review and analysis, and account reconciliations
  • Assist with standard cost rolls/duration rate change analysis and implementation
  • Drive continuous improvement in operational reports to accurately record product costs via shopfloor work orders including but not limited to labor transactions and material issues.
  • Participate in Gemba walks on the production floor with the Operations Leadership Team to address production and costing issues.
  • Work with team members across departments to ensure financial data is reported accurately.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting/finance with a history of progressive financial responsibility in the areas of ERP system cost and inventory within the manufacturing industry. 
  • Experience in manufacturing preferred
  • Proficient in Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.


Education Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • MBA, CPA or CMA certification preferred.
