Our client is an established company in the Rochester area offering a full suite of utilities offering the following: Electric, Steam, Chilled water, Process water, Waste Water Treatment/Sewer, Nitrogen, Demineralized Water, Hazardous Waste disposal, Solid Waste disposal, Compressed Air, High-Purity water and Natural Gas.

The Ops Manager is responsible for all operational aspects of utilities and distribution systems (collectively, “the Plant”) The Ops Manager plans, organizes, and directs all the activities of the consolidated operations team which requires a close working relationship with maintenance staff and EHS staff. The Ops Manager prepares annual budget forecasts, enforces spending discipline and provides strategic guidance for capital improvement projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements the Plant’s KPIs, policies and procedures.

  • Strong knowledge of all State and Federal rules and regulations governing Plant operations to include but not limited Title V Air Permit and Department of Health compliance regulations.

  • Manage all Consolidated Ops personnel including training, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, conducting performance evaluations and taking disciplinary personnel actions if necessary.

  • Prepares the Plant budget; assists in budget implementation; participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; administers approved budget.

  • Conducts root cause analysis studies and reports as internal teaching/lessons learned tools and to share with customers and owners.

  • Develops, implements, and manages consistent plant operating philosophies and best practices to maximize plant reliability, efficiency and profitability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or High School Diploma. Additional consideration given to technical degrees and experience

  • 15 + years of increasing levels of responsibility in boiler, gas turbine based cogen, steam turbine, water and refrigeration operations Preferred

  • 15 + years of increasing levels of responsibility managing and training people with demonstrated success in building strong cohesive teams focused on operational excellence preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • NYS Stationary Engineer (1st, 2nd and/or 3rd Class, Chief)

  • NYS DOH 1A or 2A license

  • USEPA Refrigeration Handling Universal License

  • NYS Refrigeration License (2nd, 3rd and/or 4th Class, Chief)

SKILLS:

  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite of office products

  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents, control drawings, service bulletins, technical manuals, equipment specifications, and governmental regulations.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, customers, and operational level personnel.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and willingness to use a company or personal car
