Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sheet Metal Manager to join our team. The Sheet Metal Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing sheet metal projects, ensuring they are completed with high quality, within budget, and on time. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sheet metal and plumbing, preferably in commercial and hospital settings. This position requires both technical expertise and excellent management skills.


Job Summary:
The Sheet Metal Manager will utilize their knowledge and experience in the trade to coordinate internal teams and external clients, ensuring the successful completion of projects while adhering to time and budget constraints. This may involve hands-on work in the trade. The manager will supervise crew leaders, journeymen, and apprentices, while also collaborating with the Project Manager and maintaining effective communication throughout the project.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Supervise and provide guidance to crew leaders, journeymen, and apprentices in the sheet metal trade.
  2. Collaborate with the Project Manager to determine project needs, communicate project status and changes, and ensure smooth project execution.
  3. Lead and train crews in areas such as planning, layout, material management, technical project information interpretation, and specific craft skills.
  4. Take-off, order, and schedule delivery of materials required for the project.
  5. Collaborate with the project manager, general superintendent, purchasing, fabrication shop, and construction supervisor to pre-plan job requirements.
  6. Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, equipment specifications, job specifications, and other construction-related information.
  7. Collaborate with the CAD department until final coordination drawings are complete.
  8. Visualize, anticipate, and organize the construction sequence and flow using design information and experience.
  9. Ensure the project stays within budget and on schedule, utilizing variance reports to manage the project budget effectively.
  10. Maintain a clean, orderly, and organized work site.
  11. Coordinate installation with other tradesmen, the General Contractor, and the client.
  12. Participate in hands-on completion of piping and sheet metal assignments whenever possible.
  13. Stay updated on building codes and regulations governing inspections and construction practices, coordinating inspections accordingly..
  14. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.

Qualifications:

  1. High school graduate/GED with a 4-year apprenticeship certificate in the relevant trade.
  2. Minimum of 4 years of field experience in sheet metal and/or plumbing.
  3. Strong working knowledge of relevant national and local codes, as well as company and industry standards.
  4. Possession and maintenance of required licenses in the jurisdictions where working.
  5. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience.
  6. Proven abilities in sheet metal, pipefitting, service, or system functionality.
  7. Journeyman supervisory certificate or master service technician designation as necessary.
  8. Basic computer skills.
