Pay Range:

  • Engineer Intern I – $70,000 annually (approx.)

  • Engineer Intern II – $75,000 annually (approx.)

  • Engineer – $85,000 annually (approx.)

About the Opportunity

The S&WBNO is seeking motivated civil engineers and engineer interns to join its team on a long-term contract basis. These positions support critical infrastructure improvement projects across the city, with opportunities to convert to permanent employment based on performance.

This is an excellent opportunity for early-career or experienced engineers seeking hands-on experience in public works and environmental infrastructure, while working alongside seasoned professionals committed to the resilience and sustainability of New Orleans.

Roles Available

Engineer Intern I (Entry Level)

  • Assist in the research, design, and construction of water, sewer, and drainage projects.

  • Support senior engineers with drafting, calculations, and field inspections.

  • Participate in project documentation, design reviews, and data collection.

Ideal for: Recent engineering graduates or early-career engineers looking to build field and design experience.

Engineer Intern II (Intermediate Level)

  • Perform independent technical work under the direction of licensed engineers.

  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for ongoing infrastructure projects.

  • Conduct field inspections and coordinate with contractors and consultants.

  • Mentor or assign tasks to junior team members as experience grows.

Ideal for: Candidates with 1–3 years of civil or environmental engineering experience who are ready to take on greater project responsibility.

Engineer (Professional Level)

  • Lead and coordinate engineering design, analysis, and project oversight for major infrastructure initiatives.

  • Review plans and specifications to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with codes and standards.

  • Provide direction to technical staff and collaborate with external agencies and contractors.
