CNC Machine Operator

The CNC Operator is responsible for creating, adjusting, and troubleshooting CNC programs to produce parts accurately and safely.

Note: This position may involve working near active roadways or tracks and may require additional drug screening.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machinery that uses preprogrammed software to cut, drill, grind, and shape various materials.
  • Follow work instructions to run machines and equipment properly.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and minor maintenance; submit work orders when needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, job orders, and engineering changes.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and recordkeeping; notify supervisors of issues.
  • Keep machines and work areas clean and organized.
  • Identify and report defective materials or irregularities.
  • Follow all safety procedures and support other departments as needed.


Qualifications

  • Level I: 5+ years of experience or advanced technical background.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and overhead cranes.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM or CNC programming software (e.g., macros, ESPIRIT, SolidWorks, JETCAM).
  • Experience in Lean/continuous improvement environments (5S/6S, safety, quality, on-time delivery).
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality systems.
  • Basic computer skills and CNC code knowledge.
  • Strong math, mechanical, and technical aptitude.


Physical & Work Requirements

  • Strength: Able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Motion: Frequent standing, kneeling, squatting, stooping, climbing, and overhead reaching.
  • Vision/Hearing: Must detect machine issues and communicate clearly.
  • Environment: Mostly indoor, non-climate-controlled areas with exposure to oils and lubricants.
  • Emotional/Safety Demands: Must remain alert, follow all safety rules, and use required PPE (hand, head, eye, ear, and foot protection).


Advanced Responsibilities

  • Set machine coordinates (X, Y, Z).
  • Understand basic G-code and M-code.
  • Apply general electrical knowledge.
  • Perform preventative maintenance.
  • Serve as lead programmer on assigned equipment.
  • Train others on proper machine setup and safe operation.
