Job Title: Cleaning Technician – Mill Department
Location: Cardinal Paint & Powder, Decatur, Texas


Position Summary

The Cleaning Technician in the Mill Department is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace to support smooth operations in production of powders/coatings. This role helps ensure that equipment, production areas, and surrounding workspaces meet company standards for cleanliness and safety.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in the mill area, including powder processing zones, walkways, and stairwells.

  • Wipe down, sanitize, and maintain dust-prone equipment surfaces, guards, chutes, and ventilation hoods.

  • Empty and sanitize trash receptacles and dispose of waste materials according to company protocols.

  • Assist in cleaning spills or powder residues promptly to prevent safety hazards (e.g., slip, dust explosion risk).

  • Clean and maintain restrooms and common employee areas used by mill department staff.

  • Clean windows, walls, doors, and other surfaces as needed to maintain an overall clean appearance.

  • Perform routine cleaning of storage areas, break rooms, and offices in the mill department.

  • Assist with equipment shutdown cleaning: brushing, wiping, or pressure washing where applicable and safe.

  • Ensure cleaning supplies, tools, and chemicals are stored properly and maintained in good condition.

  • Monitor and report any maintenance issues (e.g. broken fixtures, safety hazards, deteriorating conditions).

  • Adhere to safety practices — use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), follow safety data sheets (SDS) for any chemicals, and follow company safety protocols and guidelines.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of industrial cleaning practices, especially in powder/mill environments.

  • Ability to read and understand safety labels and chemical usage instructions.

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment (e.g. scrubbers, pressure washers) safely.

  • Strong attention to detail, especially to areas that are less visible but important (e.g. behind/under equipment).

  • Physical stamina: ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and lift up to [specify weight, e.g. 50 lbs] frequently.

  • Good time management and ability to follow direction and work independently when needed.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience in industrial or manufacturing cleaning is a plus.

  • Ability to work in dusty environments, possibly under varying temperature or humidity.

  • Ability to follow safety protocols, including wearing PPE.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to scheduled shifts (which may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on production schedule).


Working Conditions

  • Environment includes exposure to dust, powder, noise, and chemicals.

  • Use of protective gear (respirators, ear protection, gloves, safety glasses) is required.

  • May require climbing ladders or scaffolding, working in tight spaces, or performing repetitive tasks.

  • Shift schedules may vary; must be flexible to address production cleaning needs.
