Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Community Center Recreation Supervisors, this position is responsible for programming of a recreation facility in order to provide clean and safe opportunities for sport and recreation programs and promote a healthy lifestyle for all community residents. Assists with planning and developing sport and recreation programs, implementing them to ensure that activities and events are made available for all community members. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

Assists in administering and operating a specified recreation site and its related facilities, including registration of participants, rentals of event venues, and record keeping of programs at the site.

Assists in developing, facilitating, and evaluating recreational activities for all age groups at the assigned site.

Ensures the facility rules and regulations are being followed. Assists with office duties related to programs, rentals, events, and customer service. Acts as an attendant or host for a variety of functions at the facility, program, or activity site. Ensures a safe environment for all participants.

Prepares daily, weekly, and seasonal schedules of events and activities. Schedules building usage for our different programs and building rentals. Assists in scheduling, coordinating, and supervising various site activities and events.

Ensures program information is available to the community. Proactively develops effective approaches to solicit program and facility suggestions from the public.

Assists children with homework during the after-school program. Assists with transportation of children to the facility from various schools for the afterschool program.

Plans daily recreation activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Monitors the use of recreation equipment and facilities at events around the city. Monitors maintenance needs of recreation facilities, equipment and playgrounds, reporting needs to supervisors and facilitates improvements as directed.

Assists as needed in the development and implementation of City’s recreation programs at other city recreation facilities. Type of work and applicable situations will be determined and assigned by the Recreation Division administration.

Creates flyers, press releases, and other documents with information about recreation events and activities.

Supervises front desk coverage and gymnasium programming by seasonal part time staff and volunteers as directed by their supervisor.

Performs routine office procedures as needed or directed by preparing and submitting reports to include deposits of funds collected and documentation of ongoing program progress.

For declared disasters, position may be considered “essential’; assists in department overall preparation and recovery operations and assists other departments as needed.

Knowledge of development, procedure, and administration of recreational and sports programs as well as scheduling/tournament bracketing.

Ability to work flexible hours, such as 7:00 am to 4:00 pm or 12:00 to 9:00 pm, on various weekdays, weeknights, and/or weekends as needed for special projects and scheduled events.

Proficient in use of desktop computer and computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word,
Excel), Recreation Programming Software, Canva, e-mail programs (such as Outlook), internet
research programs (such as Chrome or Firefox), and multi-function workstation.
Education and Experience:
-
Associates degree in Recreation, Athletics, Physical Education or related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

One (1) year of experience in recreation, parks, and/or sports setting.

A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City Manager’s discretion.
Certificates and Licenses:
-
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and must be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider. CDL is preferred.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.
