Position Summary:

Performs semi-skilled and limited-skilled work in the maintenance of streets, stormwater, and rights-of-way maintenance. Employees may be assigned to one or several functions within the classification depending upon the needs of the department. Under general supervision, incumbent must exercise reasonable initiates and independent judgement in ensuring that timely, efficient, and effective services are provided to departments, selecting work methods, and performing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Performs semi-skilled work for jobs related to, maintenance and repair of stormwater, streets, and rights-of-way.

  • Performs limited skilled work in canals, streets, ditches, and ponds using first-level maintenance equipment.

  • Washes, cleans, and gives routine first-level maintenance to equipment.

  • Operates pressure cleaning equipment, tractors, chain saws, trimmers, small trucks, and automotive equipment.

  • Assists team in construction and maintenance activities including, but not limited to road patching, ditch maintenance, stormwater system maintenance, and rights-of-way repair.

  • Assists with obtaining, tools and materials needed for work. Assists in setting up barricades and other warning devices to channel traffic around construction areas or other hazards.

  • May be required for stand-by and or after-hour duties.

  • Prepares daily activity sheets and other documentation as required.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, materials, and tools of several trades.

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain records on activities.

  • Ability to apply all applicable safety measures.

  • Ability to be a dedicated, supportive member of our team.

  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment of the trades.

  • Ability to perform manual work under adverse weather condition for extended periods.

  • Ability to work in/or around traffic, working around underground utilities: electric, gas, phone/fiber optics, cable TV, water, sewer lines, etc.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.   

  • Minimum 1 year experience in related work. 

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and must be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.
