PAY RANGE DOQ: $17.20 - $27.52/HR.
Position Summary:
Semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining cemetery grounds and monuments, as well as preparing grave sites for interments. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs routine grounds and road right-of-way clearing and maintenance: cuts grass with power mowers, including push-type, zero-turn, or tractor mowers; uses string trimmer, edger, hedge trimmer, blower; cleans and maintains grounds maintenance equipment; cuts, hoes and sprays weeds; trims and prunes shrubbery and small trees; rakes leaves and other debris; edges curbs; lays sod or seed as required; loads trash and trimmings onto a trailer or truck; sweeps or blows sidewalks and monuments; cleans restrooms and floors; conducts litter removal; inspects and repairs irrigation systems; prepares areas for public use.

Performs routine grave preparation for interments assists with locates and layouts; excavates grave by specified size using pick, shovel, and/or backhoe; positions lowering device on grave; erects canopy; lays carpet and arranges folding chairs to prepare for funeral services.

Performs routine grave activities after the funeral service assists with lowering the container into the vault, removal of the lowering device, backfills the grave, tamps and smooths the grave site soil, arranges any flowers, leaving the site clean and professional looking.

Performs routine cemetery monument maintenance: spraying and cleaning monuments; resetting or repairing monuments as required.

Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers as required.

Inform and assist the public in the use of facilities.

For declared disasters, position is considered “essential’; works with City crews during preparation and recovery operations (road clearing, debris removal from rights of way and city properties, inspection of facilities, etc.).

Education and Experience:

High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

Grounds maintenance and cemetery operations experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.
