YOUTH ATHLETICS COORDINATOR

Position Summary:

Reports to the Athletic Program Manager and assists in developing, administering, and directing a comprehensive youth sports program which includes the coordination of league activities and the recruitment and training of coaches, officials, and volunteers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.

  • Carries out all duties related to the promotion and implementation of City-run youth and adult leagues and league-related activities in a variety of sports:

    • Set dates for registration, callout, coach and officials meetings, team photos, skills competitions, and game dates.

    • Coordinates, monitors, and assists with the registration process and database entry for accuracy and participant counts.

    • Recruits, trains, schedules, oversees, and submits payroll for officials.

    • Recruits, trains, and coordinates background checks for volunteer coaches.

    • Creates rosters, schedules, game reports, and maintains all other league documents to be distributed to participants.

    • Coordinate jersey and equipment orders.

    • Some evening and weekend work supervising games and activities.

    • Maintain updated league standings, league game results, and skills competition results for weekly web posting and media releases.

    • Assist with repair, replacement, and upkeep of equipment (goals, nets, balls, etc.) and ensuring equipment is properly stored and secured when not in use.

    • Is the primary point of contact for youth sports issues/complaints, replying in a timely manner.

  • Works together with the Parks Division to ensure athletic facilities are suitably set up and prepared for all programmed uses.

  • Assists coordination of concession stand staffing, inventory, and operation for various sports events.

  • On-site liaison between event organizer and department for large events held at City athletic facilities, monitoring setup, breakdown, and adherence to safety standards.

  • Reports and coordinates any needed field or facility maintenance repairs to supervisor.

  • Assists with other Recreation Division programming and events.

  • Through various media, keeps the public informed of the services, facilities and programs available through the Recreation Division.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skill in computer usage for email, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, financial software, and social media.

  • Ability to work extensively at night and on weekends as required by the program schedule.

  • Knowledge of marketing and management methods for youth sports.

  • Ability to manage, motivate, and lead volunteers, participants, and officials.

  • Ability to recruit and train officials and volunteer coaches for various sports.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an Associate Degree in Recreation, Athletics, Physical Education or a related field.

  • Three (3) years of experience in sports league administration or event administration.

  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City’s discretion.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance carrier.

  • Must obtain Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) certification within 12 months of employment.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises seasonal part time employees and volunteers.
