A TIG Welder job involves precisely joining metals (steel, aluminum, stainless) using Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) techniques, requiring blueprint reading, equipment setup (torch, gas, tungsten), surface prep, skilled arc control, and quality inspection for strong, clean welds, all while maintaining safety and cleanliness in manufacturing, aerospace, or fabrication settings. Key Responsibilities Welding Execution: Perform precise TIG (GTAW) welding on various metals, often in different positions. Blueprint Interpretation: Read and understand technical drawings, welding symbols, and procedures. Material Preparation: Clean, cut, shape, and set up metal parts for welding. Equipment Management: Set up, operate, and maintain TIG welders, gas cylinders, and related tools. Quality Control: Inspect welds for accuracy, penetration, and adherence to standards (like AWS). Safety & Cleanliness: Follow all safety protocols (OSHA, company) and keep work areas clean and organized. Fabrication: May involve tack welding, grinding, polishing, and creating fixtures/jigs. Typical Skills & Requirements Proficiency in TIG welding steel, stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, etc. Ability to read and apply blueprints, tapes, and calipers. Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for precise work. Knowledge of welding procedures (WPS) and quality standards. Experience with shop aids, fixtures, and post-weld finishing. Work Environment Fast-paced production or job shop settings, potentially in aerospace, construction, or general manufacturing. Involves standing, lifting (up to 50-60 lbs), bending, and wearing PPE.
