A welder's job involves using heat, such as electric arcs or torches, to join, cut, and shape metal parts according to technical drawings, creating strong bonds for fabrication, construction, and repair in various industries. Key duties include reading blueprints, setting up equipment (like MIG, TIG, or stick welders), performing high-quality welds, inspecting finished work, maintaining machinery, and strictly following safety protocols.  

Key Responsibilities:

Preparation: Study blueprints, calculate dimensions, lay out, and position metal parts using clamps and jigs. 

Welding: Operate specialized equipment (arc, MIG, TIG) to fuse metals, often in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead). 

Fabrication & Assembly: Assemble structural forms like machinery frames, bridges, or pipelines. 

Finishing: Grind, clean, and smooth welded surfaces for a quality finish. 

Inspection: Check welds for flaws, ensuring they meet specifications and quality standards. 

Maintenance: Keep welding equipment and work area clean and orderly. 

Safety: Adhere to strict safety regulations, wear appropriate gear, and understand metallurgy/thermal dynamics.
