Mining Sample Preparation Technician

The Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for processing client samples and preparing them for laboratory analysis. This role involves hands-on work in a production lab environment and requires strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to follow established procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform sample preparation tasks including ringing, sieving (including International Soils), crushing, and splitting under supervision.
• Load and unload drying ovens as directed.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date production logs.
• Ensure general lab cleanliness and participate in daily housekeeping duties.
• Assist with layout duties and special handling requests such as compositing, screen metallics, and other specified procedures.
• Inspect equipment and report any issues or needed adjustments to senior staff.
• Follow all analytical quality standards and maintain attention to detail throughout processes.
• Comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Skills & Abilities:

• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic English communication skills (written and verbal).
• Basic understanding of alphanumeric labeling and data entry.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
• Comfortable working in a hot, dusty environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly (lifting over 50 lbs. requires assistance or lift-assist equipment).
• Clean-shaven to ensure proper fit of protective equipment.
• Ability to perform some general office and data entry work as required.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a fast-paced laboratory environment with exposure to heat, dust, and various sample materials. Safety protocols and PPE compliance are mandatory at all times.
