Payroll Accountant

Payroll Accountant – Hybrid | Temp or Temp-to-Hire | San Rafael | $33–$37/hour

In this role, you'll support the organization’s fiscal operations by managing and owning their 50 employee payroll process, You’ll play a key role in keeping payroll data accurate, organized, and compliant—while contributing to a mission that makes a real impact in public education.

• Start: ASAP

• Duration: 2+ months temp, with potential for temp-to-hire if mutual fit

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours

• Location: Hybrid – 3 days onsite in San Rafael (near SMART station), 2 days remote

• Requirements: Offer contingent on successful background check

In this role, you will:

• Process all payroll related documents including voluntary deductions, status changes, terminations

• Audit and calculate payroll adjustments

• prepare various reports pertaining to retirement, OASDI, SDI, Federal, State, and Local taxes

• Process membership and retirement documents; issue/process warrants

• Maintains employee payroll files : track employee leaves usage and work day balances

• Other duties as assigned

We're looking for someone who has:

• 2+ years recent and relevant payroll processing experience

• A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business, or public administration preferred

• Accounting and financial management systems experience (QSS, Escape, or Frontline a plus)

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Excellent communication skills—written and verbal

• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
