Business Development Associate – Insurance - Petaluma / Novato, CA (Hybrid)

We’re seeking a motivated Business Development Associate with commercial property and casualty insurance experience—even light experience is valuable. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-energy, collaborative team with a start-up feel and growth opportunities.

 

Schedule & Location:

Hybrid schedule – Tuesdays and Thursdays onsite (currently in Petaluma, relocating to Novato later this year), with three days remote.

 

About the Role:

This newly created position reports to the Managing VP of Business Development and plays a key role in supporting and expanding the broker network across core insurance programs. It’s an excellent fit for someone with 2–3 years of insurance industry experience who wants to grow into a Business Development Manager role.

 

You’re a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves digging into the data, and brings urgency, accuracy, and exceptional follow-through to your work. You’re also collaborative and confident asking questions when needed.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learn to confidently articulate the company’s vision, products, and programs

  • Drive submissions through outbound calls, emails, and inbound lead follow-up

  • Strengthen relationships and increase production with existing brokers

  • Research prospective broker partners, identify key contacts, and generate interest

  • Dive into broker performance data and assemble regular reports/metrics

  • Support pipeline activities such as quote follow-ups and information gathering

  • Monitor territory trends and share insights to inform strategy

  • Attend sales training and remain open to feedback and coaching

 

Ideal Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of insurance industry experience, preferably in commercial property and casualty (workers’ comp and package lines a plus)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Strong phone presence and experience in broker/client-facing roles

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Highly organized with strong time management skills

  • Proactive and data-minded, with excellent follow-through

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and internet research

 

Compensation: $85,000 – $95,000 base salary + bonus potential and robust benefits package
