Position Title: Production Supervisor
Salary: $75-95K/year (based on experience)
Shift: 1st Shift
Hours: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday-Friday), with minimal on-call responsibility as needed
We are seeking a Production Supervisor for a company based in Rockford, IL. This DIRECT HIRE role will oversee 30-50 direct-report operators and report directly to the COO.
Responsibilities:
Promote safety daily and ensure employees adhere to PPE requirements.
Foster a positive and cooperative attitude across all levels of the organization.
Manage daily time and attendance, including tracking punches, scheduling, vacation, tardiness, and absences.
Verify job cards for accurate job orders, quantities, time tracking, and scrap entry, making corrections as needed.
Update and manage schedules, ensuring timely job releases and adjustments to meet customer delivery dates.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex machining issues on machines such as multi-spindle, centerless grinders, broaching, and rotary transfer. (Machine operation knowledge is a plus, but problem-solving skills are essential.)
Schedule and manage maintenance work as required, working closely with the maintenance team to improve machine functionality and assist with repairs.
Monitor material/component availability to ensure machine readiness when supplies arrive.
Print and update quality documents, prints, and layouts as needed for job changes.
Optimize production flow by offloading jobs to alternate machinery as required.
Order special tooling specific to jobs, including perishable tooling (e.g., roll thread heads, cams, gears).
Address inspection questions to keep parts moving through job operations and to shipping.
Provide answers to operator questions regarding parts, documents, material, tooling, or scheduling.
Tend to machines when operators are absent.
Respond to urgent job needs (hot parts) and ensure they move through operations, get labeled, and are shipped ASAP.
Prioritize customer "hot list" jobs over others.
Attend New Part Meetings to provide input on machine availability, operator concerns, and scheduling.
Must-Have Skills:
2+ years of supervisory experience or extensive manufacturing, machining, and maintenance experience.
High school diploma or equivalent; willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently and self-direct tasks.
Strong attendance record.
Proficient in reading and interpreting shop floor blueprint drawings.
Proficient in both Imperial and Metric measurement systems.
Experience with inspection equipment: optical comparator, profilometer, roundness tester, universal gauge, and various hand gauges (micrometers, calipers, pitch micrometers, internal ID gauges, radius gauges, indicators, height gauges).
Experience with attribute gauges (e.g., thread rings, thread plugs, plug gauges, pipe thread rings/plugs) and visual standards.
Basic computer skills and proficiency in geometric tolerances.
Strong visual observation, critical thinking, mechanical aptitude, and math skills.
Detail-oriented with a results-driven approach.
- Nice-to-Have Skills:
Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
Screw Machine Experience.
Experience with Greenlee, Acmes, and CNC machines.
