Opens and closes waterman valves with an eye on staff gauges to economized dispensing of irrigation waters. Performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment, intake locations, outfall locations, and entry facilities.

Work involves performing preventative maintenance, repair work, and maintaining logs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Opens and closes waterman valves in response to irrigation requests

  • Monitors lateral and pump ditch staff gauges, takin appropriate actions as necessary.

  • Monitors performance of pumps and motors.

  • Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled.

  • Performs repair work as necessary.

  • Maintains logs and records of preventative maintenance, repair maintenance, and parts consumed.

  • Responds to after-hours calls to maintain system integrity and protect landowner interests.

  • Maintains diesel fuel tanks and records.

  • Must be able to take initiative to ensure the continued functionality of pump stations.

  • May be assigned to shift work.

  • May be required to work weekends and holidays.

  • May be required to respond to after-hours calls.

EMERGENCY STATUS

  • Employee is highly likely to be required to work during an emergency (declared or undeclared). Position includes non-deferrable services that must be performed despite an emergency.

  • Employee is expected to have made personal arrangements for emergencies and report to work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid FL Drivers License, class E minimum; class B preferred.

  • Preference for endorsements: H, N, & X 5 years mechanical maintenance or building trades work, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Maximum of 2 years credit for training.
