Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example centrifuges and ph meter
- Responsible to perform laboratory tests using the manufacturers procedures in order to produce reliable and precise data
- Chrome analysis will be performed twice a week
- Sulfamate Nickel analysis will be performed weekly
- Phosphate Analysis will be performed weekly
- Responsible to use provided charts to cross reference test results
- Chrome, Sulfamate Nickel, & Phosphate Plating Parameters
- Chromic Acid Addition Chart & Sulfuric Acid Addition Chart
- Phosphate Addition Chart
- Ensuring the laboratory is well stocked and to monitor shelf life of products used in lab
- Responsible for performing mathematical calculations to make recordings on the plating tanks analysis form
- Responsible for recording and interpreting results to present to chrome shop supervisor
- Responsible to ensure designated chrome shop helper follows through once test results are recorded by making additions to tanks as required and signing off on the plating tanks analysis form
- Responsible to follow and ensure safety guidelines given in the manufacturers procedures
Laboratory Testing to be done:
- Determination of sulfate in a chromium plating solution using the hand centrifuge – Kocour Procedure #142
- Determination of chromic acid in a chromium plating solution – Kocour Procedure #143
- Determination of boric acid in a nickel or zinc plating solution – Kocour Procedure #185
- Determination of metallic nickel in plating solutions – Kocour Procedure #240
- Keykote 36 Heavy Zinc Phosphate #114664 – Mac Dermid Procedure
- Aerocote 4 Manganese Phosphate applied by immersion – Chemetall Procedure
Steps to be taken:
- Get test specimen from tank
- Perform test according to manufacturer’s procedure
- Make calculations of test results
- Record test results on plating tanks analysis form
- Have designated chrome shop helper make required additions and sign off on the plating tanks analysis form
- Keep chrome shop supervisor aware of test results
Qualifications:
- Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 3 years experience in industrial chrome plating industry performing lab tests
