This is an exciting time to join CPS Energy and be part of the founding team which is defining the digital transformation of CPS Energy towards becoming a Digital Utility. There is enormous growth opportunity for the right individual who displays leadership towards not only delivering great solutions but also drives adoption of Agile ways of working throughout the digital teams.


We are looking for a true leader to join our Digital Experience team as a Scrum Master. The individual in this role will be passionate about coaching digital scrum teams focused on producing high-quality digital experiences. 


The Scrum Master will be the go-to for applying scrum framework to new CPS Energy digital product teams while creating self-organizing teams that are flexible and fully productive during sprints. The role helps manage timelines to meet release dates, removes impediments and coaches team members on Agile methodologies. 


Collaborating and building the scrum team’s trust while ensuring the essential information is shared with the right people. The Scrum Master is a true leader for coaching the team on how to establish roadmaps, product planning, clear and concise backlog items and assisting the team with creating measurable objectives. 


This role will work closely with the Senior Digital Product Manager, as well partner with the Vice President of Digital & Data Transformation, Information Technology leadership, peers, and cross-functional teams to help the product team develop new features, services or capabilities which evolve the digital experience for customers and employees and directly contributes to CPS Energy’s digital transformation.


Support CPS Energy’s mission to continuously improve the digital experiences by leading empirical process control – transparency, inspection, and adaptation.

  • Work with teams, Stakeholders, other Scrum Masters and CPS Energy leaders to foster a culture that supports respect, focus, courage, openness, and commitment.

  • Define and lead an agile vision and strategy that improves as CPS Energy advances in our agile understanding.

  • Coach the team in self-management and cross-functionality.

  • Coach and mentor other employees and business leaders in supporting team self-organization.

  • Causing the removal of impediments to the Scrum Team’s progress.

  • Coach and mentor the team in other organizational and business activities that enhances self-organization.

  • Ensuring all Scrum events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the timebox.

  • Help the team establish practices that enhance quality, lowers technical debt and increases product value.

  • Ensure the goals, scope and product domain are understood by everyone on the team.

  • Helping find techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management.

  • Help the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog Items.

  • Helping establish empirical product planning for a complex environment.

  • Guide the product manager on arranging the Product Backlogs to maximize value.

  • Facilitating stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed.

  • Coach the Product Manager on understanding and practicing agility.

  • Help the Scrum Team establish a strong focus on the Product Goal, Sprint Goals and the Definition of Done.

  • Leading, training, and coaching the organization in its Scrum adoption.

  • Raising awareness of impediments, then facilitate the removal in our mission to continually improve.

  • Facilitate events as requested.

  • Leading and coaching the organization in its Scrum and agile adoption.

  • Planning and advising Scrum implementations within the organization.

  • Helping employees and stakeholders understand and enact an empirical approach for complex work.

  • Initiating change through empiricism that fosters a continuous support environment.

  • Work with other organization leaders to create an environment the increases productivity, product value and quality by facilitating the removal of impediments.

  • Work with other Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of Scrum throughout the organization.

  • Removing barriers between stakeholders and Scrum Teams.


Looking for a true leader to help establish the scrum framework to the new CPS Energy digital scrum teams while partnering to create Agile Ways of Working methodology and establish best practices. Our goal is to identify a servant leader who is an excellent coach, a strong communicator and an organized planner who has a solid scrum background to help us meet our long-term goals as we kick off a digital transformation.



  • Conflict resolution and excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience working in a technologically advance company; to include experience as a digital Scrum Master

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of working in the Software Development Industry (both good and bad) so you can relate to people

  • Experience in applying a wide variety of well-known patterns and techniques, e.g. TDD, SOLID, CI/CD, INVEST, User Stories, agile estimation

  • Extensive experience applying core Agile, Project and Scrum knowledge to customer facing products and features

  • Hard conversations skills, guiding thorough inspection and exploring options to change

  • Manage products using the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence) to compile scrum metrics, sprint results and reporting

  • Relevant information technology and/or business experience, including significant time within a digital function


Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • Agile Methodology

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Marketing, Human Centered Design

  • Certified ScrumMaster

  • Coaching credential (ICF)

  • OT Experience

  • Product Management

  • Scrum Methodology

  • Second level Scrum Master certification (CSP, PSM II)

  • Utility Experience


Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computer equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
