GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Functions in utility capacity, performing various construction activities by transferring from task to task with minimal supervision. Supports the Lead Carpenter.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Primary Duties

 

• Levels earth to final grade and excavate, as specified, using pick and shovel.

• Mixes cement using hoe or concrete mixing machine, smooths and finishes freshly poured concrete using trowel or screed.

• Erects scaffolding, shoring and braces.

• Mops, brushes or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.

• Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.

• Grinds, sands or polishes surfaces such as concrete or wood flooring using abrading tools or machines.

• Chips, scrapes, rubs and grinds high spots, ridges and rough projections from surface to remove defective concrete using pneumatic chisel or hand tools.

• Lifts and positions workplace onto table, manually or using jib crane.

• Uses oxygen, gas acetylene or propane torch cutting equipment to cut material as required.

• May lay out cutting lines using rule, square and compass or by tracing from template.

• Operates compacting machine and/or pushes hand roller and pounds/smooths surfaces to be compacted.

• Operates straight or articulated rubber tires, tractor type vehicle equipped with front mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas to feed

conveyors, hoppers or chutes and to load trucks.

• Performs routine maintenance on equipment such as lubricating, fueling and cleaning.

• May be required to drive pick-up between jobsites or deliver materials.

• Performs additional duties as required by the job. • Maintain a clean job site. • Must pick up all tools, equipment and secure jobsite each day.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:

 

• Sufficient education to follow instructions

 

Experience:

 

• Prefer at least three (3) months directly related experience.

 

Skills:

 

• Current valid driver’s license.

• Able to safely operate a motor vehicle.

• Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
