The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for performing numerous essential functions to ensure the safety and quality of all incoming materials and finished products used and produced by the plant. Quality Assurance Specialist answers to the Quality Assurance Lead and Quality Systems Coordinator and must adhere to all company policies, standard operating procedures and customer regulations and specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Conducts pre-operational inspection of equipment and facilities as required, depending on the assigned shift.

  • Assists in performing environmental sampling of equipment, drains, and raw and finished products.

  • Calibration of thermometers and scales on a daily basis.

  • Monitor sanitation standard operating procedures and document SSOP’s in accordance with the company’s program.

  • Monitoring and documenting the quality of packaging, raw materials, and finished products.

  • Monitoring foreign material detection and rejection.

  • Monitoring and recording weights of finished products.

  • Taking raw and finished product temperatures.

  • Monitor physical, chemical, and sensory characteristics of raw and finished products.

  • Generating and completing the required records and documentation on a daily basis for each product line in accordance to the customer’s specifications.

  • Perform HACCP monitoring and verification for all critical control points of the company’s HACCP programs.

  • Supports QA team when working alongside USDA and production employees.

  • Monitor and ensure food security and safety.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess basic math and computer skills, and be able to read and analyze process charts, graphs, and logs.

  • Must possess good analytical and logical problem-solving skills.

  • Must have excellent oral and written skills at a technical and general level.

  • Bilingual English / Spanish speaking skills a plus.

  • Leadership skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1year experience in quality assurance in a food processing environment.

HACCP Certified or be able to become HACCP Certified.

Working Environment

  • Frequently requires standing, lifting, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, smelling, listening, speaking, and seeing to perform the essential job duties.

  • Work conditions vary, quitting time will vary based upon production needs, and flexibility is critical. Temperatures range about 40 degrees in processing departments.

  • Exposure to potentially dangerous machinery and equipment is present in the plant. Potential electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards are also present. The noise level is high and constant. Floors are damp and slick.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, pull and lift up to 20 lbs., and to stand for long periods of time.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, handling, reach outward, reach above shoulder, crawl, squat/Kneel, bend, push and pull frequently. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on work surface.

  • Ability to use upper and lower extremities to move or transport 25 to 50 pounds, including pressing against something to force it in a forward, downward or outward position or drag, haul 25 to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending spine at waist, and bending legs at knees and moving extremities in any direction

  • Ability to withstand physical demands on the body, including being in a stationary and/or standing position most of the day

  • Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, including where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

  • Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information
