GENERAL SUMMARY Works on projects involved in constructing, erecting, installing and repairing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools conforming to local building codes. Read blueprints and other specification to determine methods of installation, work procedures and materials, tools and work requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Primary Duties • Read, study and interpret blueprints, sketches or plans to do layouts, and take offs of the materials • Selects, measures and cuts different type of materials.

• Assembles materials, fastens and verifies trueness of structure.

• Erects framework for structures and lays sub flooring.

• Measures, saws, fit, erect, installs and nails various wooden structures.

• Measures, lays-out, cut fits, align and install various metal framing and materials.

• Performs additional duties as required to be proficient at different trades in order to master the Employee Production Daily Rate requirements. • Be proficient on acoustical ceilings, which includes, but not limited to: layout, cut and install different types of tile and grid.

• Be proficient on metal stud framing which includes, but not limited to: layout, blocking, levelingand aligning, selecting material (different grade), cut and brace, straight walls, curved walls and curved furr-downs.

• Be proficient on doors & hardware which includes, but not limited to: installation of frames, doors, door closures and different types of hardware (e.g. panic devices, lock sets, weep holes, t-astragals, smoke seals, etc.).

• Be proficient on drywall which includes, but not limited to: selecting different types of material (e.g. sheetrock, cement board, FRP, etc.), screw patterns, layout, tap-out, material quantities and using tools of trade (e.g. screw guns, routers, knives, etc.).

• Be proficient on painting which includes, but not limited to: tape & float, texture, and paint. Know different levels of wall finishes and different types of paint and their applications (e.g. roll, spray and brush). Calculate material quantities.

• Be proficient on Concrete placement of minor slabs, sidewalks, etc... Assist with slabs and elevated structures.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:

• Must have high school and/or trade school desirable.

 

Experience:

• Knowledge of Carpentry, with at least five (5) years of experience.

• Knowledge and understanding of safety regulations.

• Knowledge of various types of materials used and their properties/applications. Mastered Skills:

• Able to use tools of the trade.

• Able to read blueprints.

• Ability to teach and communicate effectively with coworkers and work with people.

 

Physical Abilities:

• Ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet

• Ability to crawl for distances of 80 feet

• Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80lbs for 50 feet.
