Job Description: Safety Superintendent Industry: Cement Manufacturing Reports To: Safety Manager Location: [Insert Location] Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview The Safety Superintendent is responsible for supporting and advancing all aspects of the plant’s safety, health, and compliance programs. This role works closely with the Safety Manager and operational leadership to ensure a safe, compliant, and risk-aware work environment across all departments. This position is designed for long-term growth: the successful candidate will enter as a Safety Superintendent with the future potential to transition into a Safety Manager role based on performance, leadership, and demonstrated competency. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (4-year requirement) in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field. Previous experience as a Safety Professional (manufacturing, heavy industrial, mining, cement, aggregates, or similar industries preferred). Strong knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations, including Part 46/48, hazard recognition, plant safety, incident investigation, and industrial safety compliance. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels—from hourly employees to senior leadership. Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment, including climbing stairs, walking long distances, and entering confined spaces (following safety protocols). Key Responsibilities Safety Program Leadership Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of plant safety policies, procedures, and training programs. Assist in managing regulatory compliance programs (OSHA, MSHA, EPA) and ensure reporting requirements are met. Lead or assist with site inspections, audits, risk assessments, JHAs, and behavior-based safety observations. Training & Employee Development Deliver safety training, onboarding programs, toolbox talks, and annual refresher training in coordination with the Safety Manager. Coach supervisors, crew leads, and employees on safe work practices, proper use of PPE, and regulatory requirements. Serve as an internal resource for safety education, hazard mitigation, and continuous improvement. Incident Prevention & Response Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and follow-up. Track and analyze safety metrics and trends; partner with leadership to reduce risk and prevent recurrence. Support emergency response planning, drills, and readiness programs. Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate safety records, training logs, inspection reports, and regulatory documentation. Support the Safety Manager in preparing compliance reports, filings, and regulatory submissions. Ensure contractor compliance with plant safety standards and site access requirements. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of industrial safety best practices. Excellent communication, presentation, and training ability. High attention to detail with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to influence, guide, and support safe behavior across a diverse workforce. Work Environment Cement manufacturing plant environment with exposure to dust, noise, vibrations, high elevations, rotating equipment, and temperature extremes. Must be able to wear required PPE including respirators, hard hats, hearing protection, and other safety equipment.
