Human Resource Generalist

Performance Management:

  • Participates in corrective action investigations and coaches management on company policies and procedures as required
  • Assists management with the performance management process, including identifying high performers, and creating individual development plans, etc.
  • Prepares quarterly evaluation audits and works with Supervisors/Managers to update changes in performance pay

Employee Relations

  • Develops strategic working relationships with local and divisional management groups to facilitate organizational business goals
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all employees
  • Provides guidance and coaching to employees and management regarding issues of concern
  • Ensures employees concerns and questions receive appropriate consideration and response
  • Act as a resource for employees and plant management in interpreting established human resources policies and procedures, and directing them to appropriate areas for resolution
  • Participate in plant Gemba's
  • Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities

Compliance

  • Stays informed of local and state regulatory requirements
  • Ensures compliance with labor law and employment law regulations

Compensation & Benefits

  • Provides guidance to Managers/Supervisors/Team Leaders on questions regarding payroll guidelines/procedures and policies
  • Ensures training occurs for new Managers/Supervisors/Team Leaders on payroll processes
  • Directs employees and management to appropriate resources for reporting and resolving benefit related questions, issues, concerns
  • Assists HR Director with Lucerne compensation process
  • Presents training activities for benefit changes if required (i.e., open enrollment, etc.)
  • Facilitate and administer Performance Minerals Quarterly Plant Incentive Payout process

Recruitment

  • Coordinates and participates as member of interview team for exempt recruitment as required
  • Collaborates with management members in evaluation of candidates and makes offers as appropriate
  • Coordinates all Directed Contractors hiring/internal movement/releases

Workforce Planning

  • In conjunction with Management monitors the workforce to ensure appropriate manning levels are in place to meet strategic goals
  • Works with Management to forecast future needs and talent availability
  • Works with Management to identify a system for knowledge transfer in critical positions as employees prepare to leave the workforce

Talent Management

  • Recommends movement in the workforce to provide opportunities for development of high potentials
  • Works with management to develop top performers and highly skilled individuals and move them into areas where they can have a greater impact on meeting strategic goals

Continuous Improvement/Lean

  • Actively participates in the implementation of sustainable improvement processes, such as 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Daily Management Control, Standard Work, Kaizen, and Problem Solving.
  • Plans and audits standard work processes on a regular basis to ensure accuracy

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly flash meetings
  • Act as primary HR point of contact and direct issues accordingly
  • Works with Supervisors/Managers to ensure skill books and training checklists are up to date
  • Create and maintain personnel files for human resources related information as required
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form
  • Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise
  • Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace
  • Conduct employee onboarding and help organize training & development initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must have knowledge of human resources principles including benefits, recruitment, state and federal employment and labor law, and employee relations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, have the ability to work independently, be dependable, maintain confidential information, integrity and composure at all times, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, be adaptable, analytical, organized and detail-oriented, multitask, compose correspondence and other documentation in a professional manner, express ideas constructively, use judgment in decision making and use creativity, persistence, persuasion and negotiation when necessary, actively listen to others, coach/instruct others, manage time effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation.

The employee is expected to be self-directed, take initiative and be persistent when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and keep busy without prompting. Additionally, the employee is expected to be adaptable/flexible to changing work assignments, perform multiple tasks at once, learn and memorize procedures, display a cooperative attitude, read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required. Additional years of progressive experience may be considered as a substitute for the degree.

Experience:At least five years progressive experience in a human resources related position required.

Work Hours: The schedule is typically the day shift. However, employee must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays, and weekends, as necessary.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly conducting work in a controlled office environment, sitting at a desk, using office equipment, including a personal computer, moving around the office as needed. On an infrequent basis, there may be exposure to plant areas, which include exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes.

Safety Equipment: Safety equipment typically required while performing the duties of this job include ANSI approved hard hat, safety glasses, and safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection.

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual which consists of a total of 24 hours of training. Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by MSHA regulations.
