Qualifications:
OPERATOR -WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Education & Certification
High school diploma or GED (minimum requirement)
State-issued Wastewater Operator Certification (Class C, B, or A)
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to maintain certification
Technical Knowledge
Understanding of wastewater treatment processes (e.g., activated sludge, filtration, disinfection)
Familiarity with SCADA systems and basic instrumentation
Knowledge of pumps, valves, blowers, and chemical feed systems
Ability to interpret lab results and make process adjustments
Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and equipment maintenance
Analytical thinking for process control and problem-solving
Attention to detail for monitoring system performance and compliance
Computer literacy for data entry, reporting, and system monitoring
Physical & Safety Requirements
Ability to work in confined spaces and around hazardous materials
Willingness to work in all weather conditions and on rotating shifts
Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols and proper PPE usage
Physical capability to lift, climb, and stand for extended periods
Soft Skills
Clear communication skills for reporting and teamwork

Adaptability to emergencies, shift changes, and evolving regulations
Experience (Preferred)
Prior experience in municipal or industrial wastewater treatment
Familiarity with regulatory compliance FDEP
Experience with preventive maintenance programs
Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities
Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plant systems, including pumps, valves, filters, and chemical feed systems.
Collect and analyze water and wastewater samples to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Adjust chemical dosages and process controls based on lab results and operational data.
Maintain accurate records of plant operations, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
Respond to alarms, equipment malfunctions, and emergency situations promptly and effectively.
Ensure proper operation of SCADA systems and other automated controls.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
Adhere to all FDEP and EPA regulations regarding wastewater treatment and discharge.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Florida Administrative Code Chapter 62-602, which governs operator certification and conduct.
Follow all safety protocols, including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and PPE usage.
