Responsibilities:
Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water, and influent; Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels; Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings; Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control; starts and stops pump, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes; Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings; Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses; Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties; Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel; Understands and carries out oral and written directions; Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work; Performs other duties as required.
Working Conditions:
• May work at, be located at or required to travel to water treatment plants, laboratory, warehouse or vehicle shop and sites that may be under construction. Office/Field work may include travel from site to site and exposure to computer screens/cell phone. May be exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, potentially hazardous chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, gasses or biohazards, electrical and radiant energy. May work in or with water on slippery or uneven surfaces; work in or inspect confined spaces; with machinery, heavy equipment or other moving objects; Possible exposure to insects, pets and other animals;
• Depending on job tasks and location: Respiratory, hearing, and eye protection; hard hat, safety shoes, appropriate gloves, other safety equipment and/or uniform required.
• Work hours including nights and weekends consisting of 10 or 12 hour shifts with overtime, standby and call back required. This position is Sunday – Wednesday 7am – 5:30pm. This schedule is after training is complete.
Qualifications:
Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant including maintenance of equipment, quality control/testing and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift. This position holds an intermediate or entry level water treatment certification. High school diploma or GED; Certification at a level required by the State in which the project is located (Florida); One year of experience in operating water treatment plants; Possess a (DWC) Drinking Water C License with the state of Florida and possess a valid driver’s license. Must be over 21 years of age. In addition to the hiring bonus( $500 start, $1,500 after 90 days), the contingent/ Jacobs employee, is eligible to apply for their child(ren) to be considered for attendance at The Villages Charter School.
