The primary function of this position is to carry out inspection, packaging, kitting, and verification of materials and components for customer orders. The individual will work with other inspectors and employees to carry out company quality and code procedures. Duties and Responsibilities • Identifying material type, sizes and shapes • Interpreting ASTM, ASME and AWS standards and judge compliance to the standards (Including flatness and size) • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections • Packages, kits, and labels product to customer specification • Read and interpret Job Travelers and Customer drawings • Use and maintain inspection tools and equipment required for inspection process • Identify nonconforming materials and generate nonconformance reports • Inspects finished products for quality compliance before they leave plant • Analyzes reports, data, product specifications to determine compliance with standards • Reviews scrap and reworks • Ensures product has proper tagging, coding, and tracking specifications • Maintains quality production records • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested Qualifications • English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar • Clerical: Basic knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records • Minimum one (1) year comprehensive knowledge of quality control programs, concepts and practices • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Platform Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook • Basic arithmetic skills for accurate counts, and to calculate and convert decimals to fractions • Basic geometry skills to calculate correct dimensions of material • Working knowledge of steel industry Working Conditions On a typical workday, employee will spend approximately 20% of work time indoors sitting at a desk (indoors), 80% in the warehouse processing area where employee is required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, and safety boots. The Company furnishes initial hard hat, gloves and safety glasses. The employee furnishes safety boots at own expense. Employee will be exposed to some or all of the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles. Physical Requirements On a typical workday, sits, reaches, sees and hears talks, stands, bends, stoops, climbs. The ability to lift minimum weight of thirty (40) lbs. is required. Employee may occasionally (10%) travel by automobile to other locations or customers to assist with quality audits. Metals USA has the right to revise this job description at any time.
