Summary:
• Repair Technicians must understand motor electrical connections and power
supply panels with the ability to operate safely to complete motor testing. The
ability to use a megger, high potential tester, volt & amp meters. Must be able
to read and record critical measurements with micrometers. Skilled in reading
dial indicators, checking shaft and rotor runouts. Knowledge dismantling,
inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and assembling a variety of rotating
equipment including, AC and DC motors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
• Measure and record mechanical fits using: calipers, indicators and micrometers.
• Set-up and operate cutoff saws, band saws, arbor and hydraulic press, stand and
surface grinders
• Examines parts and estimates the time required to make repairs
• Inspects completed machine work for accuracy
• Able to balance rotors and armatures in stand balancer. Balance using portable
balance equipment to perform trim balancing either on site or in shop.
• Electric motor repair understanding the testing required; insulation to ground,
polarization index, high potential testing, voltage and current measurements
and equipment needed.
• Able to work in overtime situations as required.
• Safely operate various overhead cranes, forklifts, coil lifter, enerpac hydraulic
system, and various hand held power tools.
• Perform insulation resistance (megger), and other tests as required.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities on all company equipment.
• Operate vacuum ovens, Baker Surge tester, Core tester, hydraulic bearing
pullers, forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Operate high voltage test panel for test running motors.
• Perform welding and brazing operations
• Support supervisors with various other plant assignments as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required. This is normally
acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of electric motor repair and/or manufacturing operations. Duties
require verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to identify potential repair/manufacturing problems, and recommend
potential solutions.
• Ability to interpret blue prints and drawings.
• Reading and interpreting nameplates and engineering instructions.
• Ability to read and complete OD sheet checklists.
