Meter Tech

METER TECH POSITION STARTING IN JANUARY

This position will work 5 days/week, @ 40 hours/week. 

Primary Job Function and Duties:

• This position supports daily meter reading and billing as needed and will primarily be used to change water meters.  
• Cutting water off and on for delinquent accounts may also be performed which would include locking the service.  This involves opening and closing meter box tops and ensuring that they are securely fastened while putting readings within the work order system.  
• Replacing broken tops, and reporting leaking or damaged meters or other potential hazards to the Meter Services office.   
• Contact with hostile customers in the field is frequent and this may require explaining policies and procedures concerning duties, payments and billing practices performed.  
• This position may also perform leak detection, water meter re-reads, and meter cut-ons for customers of the department moving in to properties or who have met their payment obligation and water service verification.  
• Marking meter locations to assist staff in spotting hard to find water meters is also done.  
• Some assistance to field representatives in the investigation of suspicious readings of meters and leak detection may be done.  Investigation and testing of faulty meters and ERTs will be done using hand-held unites and computers.  
• Temporary personnel must maintain a working phone (home or personal cell phone) for contact.  
• Must have and maintain a good driving record.  
• Work will be performed in inclement weather at times. 
• $19/HR

Requirements:

• Mechanically inclined with previous experience in changing out equipment parts is a plus 
• Ability to work independently after initial training program
• Must have the ability to work well with the public
• Must have the ability to explain policies and procedures to customers
• Previous experience in monitoring equipment is a plus
• Must have legible hand writing and be able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Must have basic computer skills
• Must pass pre-employment criminal background check, Motor Vehicle Report, and drug screen
• MUST HAVE VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
