Description

Under the general supervision of the Water Production Maintenance Supervisor, performs limited semi-skilled manual labor using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment. Requires operation of motor vehicles including a 14-yard dump truck. Works with some degree of independence but work is subject to review while in progress and upon completion. Performs other duties as required.

Examples of Duties

Assists in maintenance and repair of water plant related equipment, buildings, and grounds.

Operates farm type tractors, 12 and 14 yard dump trucks, tractor mowers, lawn mowers, fork lift, front end loader, mini-excavator, edger, and trimmers used in maintenance of water plant and booster stations grounds.

Operates and maintains sludge filter press system, using physical and mathematical abilities to perform tasks; must be stable; operates filter sludge presses' emergency power generator system.

Performs janitorial duties around water plant.

Assist water treatment plant mechanics in a laboring capacity.

Excavates trenches.

Picks up parts, equipment, and supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and must have at least one year work experience in lawn service maintenance, building maintenance and mechanical repair maintenance using hand and power tools.

Applicant must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsement. Those who do not currently possess a Class "B" CDL must acquire a learner's permit within 3 months of hire and obtain the license within 6 months of hire. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver's license must obtain a Florida Driver's license within 10 days of employment.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends and Holidays when required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of occupational safety rules, practices, and traffic laws.

Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds and building maintenance.

General knowledge and ability to perform routine maintenance on push mowers and other small related equipment used in yard maintenance.

Ability to post and maintain adequate records for filter sludge press operations.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Able to learn, understand, and remember normal tasks.

Able to hear and understand normal conversations and identify colors.

Able to see, read, and write numbers and words in English.

Able to work with many types of chemicals (janitorial, fuels, coagulant aids, etc.).

Able to work shift work.

Able to stand, sit, or walk for periods longer than 30 minutes.

Able to work in adverse environmental weather conditions (day or night).

Able to work, walk, and stand on unstable soil conditions.

Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
