Beyond TalentEdge has a direct hire opportunity for an OSP Designer . Our client is an expert in providing technology and security solutions to the public safety, education and healthcare industries. They have been serving their clients for almost 30 years.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the Construction Manager by providing GIS and technical drawing services for projects with the following scope: Inside Plant (ISP) / Outside Plant (OSP) cabling infrastructure; wireless infrastructure, LAN/WAN networks; Internet, broadband and telecom services.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • ESRI ArcGIS/QGIS/VISIO/AutoCAD drawing production as needed for project requirements

  • Evaluate both aerial & underground cable plant construction in the Outside Plant (OSP) for quality of acceptance, and identify Point of Presence locations for utilities, utilizing maps, drawings, GPS locator and laser measurement tools such as Trimble and IKE 4.

  • Conceptual understanding of design principles for both aerial & underground cable plant infrastructure for Fiber Optic & Copper cable placement in the Outside Plant (OSP) and / or Inside Plant (ISP) environments.

  • Capable of reading and interpreting construction drawings and maps.

  • Capable of producing permit drawings and creating applications for permit submissions to such agencies as the Department of Transportation (DOT), state and local municipalities, Rail Roads, etc.

  • Manage construction of information and communications technology (ICT) type networks in the OSP and / or ISP environments.

  • Create and maintain orderly records and project documents.

  • Reviews contractor applications for payment.

  • Reports on the status of projects, schedules, and costs to the Manager of Broadband Design.

  • Lead and conduct utility ride outs with multiple utilities.

  • Ability to perform field visits and network verifications; Complete and document OSP and ISP site surveys.

  • Responds to and troubleshoots fiber optic outages utilizing various methodologies including but not limited to EXFO and OTDR.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write Scope Documents, as requested.

  • Work with other departments to ensure Make-Ready management, permitting and fielding meet OSP design criteria.

  • Assist Senior Consultants and GIS Analyst with proposal development and project planning, as needed.

Education/Experience:

  • A minimum of six years of verifiable full-time equivalent work experience in the Telecommunications (ICT) Industry. Or an equivalent combination of related work experience, training and / or education sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job is required.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and current Auto insurance

  • Credentials as an RCDD is preferred. Or is on the certification path to obtain an RCDD will be considered.

  • Field Installer experience is a plus

  • Willing and able to travel as necessary for project requirements to include but not limited to project installation and start-up activities, client meetings, company sponsored meetings, training, industry related seminars, forums, conventions, etc.

  • Associates degree in Geographic Information Science, IT, Telecom, Electrical Design, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

  • ESRI ArcGIS certification, a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient knowledge of pole line design and fiber construction, both aerial and underground.

  • Proficient in fiber cable design supporting backhaul and FTTH installations.

  • Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS type systems, IKE 4, Trimble and 30’ Measuring Stick and the use of test equipment; like but not limited to EXFO and OTDR.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite ESRI ArcGIS, Excel, MS Visio, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, ESRI ArcGIS, Google Earth.

  • Familiarity with BICSI TDMM manuals, ANSI/TIA standards and current industry design practices are required

  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) is a plus

  • Capable of reading and interpreting maps and construction drawings

  • Must demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $85,000 - $105,000
