The Registered Nurse Manager is an RN who is responsible for the overall nursing care/service and care plan implementation on his/her unit, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, documentation and emergency calls, as indicated.

 

 

Job Duties:

  1. Evaluates all admission inquires to determine appropriate placement on his/her unit.

  2. Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on his/her unit.

  3. Evaluates residents with a change of condition to assure resident needs are being met and alert Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinator of potential need for SCOS MDS.

  4. Provides support/education to staff, residents, and families.

  5. Administers direct care as needed.

  6. Makes rounds a minimum of twice during shift to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment throughout the unit.

  7. Meets with all new admissions to assure core needs are being met.

  8. Gathers information since last business day related to resident updates, events, and new orders for Morning Meeting.

  9. Prepares for and attends Risk Meeting, Lifestyles Meeting, Care Conferences, UR and other meetings as designated by supervisor.

  10. Works with Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinator to develop comprehensive care plans.

  11. Assures accuracy and completeness of medical record.

    1. Reviews resident record for all new admission to assure complete per facility policies and procedures.

    2. Reviews all event reports for completion and makes sure residents needs are being met and documented.

  12. Investigates and documents investigation of all events.

  13. Assists with admissions, resident care plans, and resident assessments as needed.

  14. Completes discharge summaries.

  15. Assists with Pharmacy and Dietary recommendations (to assure follow-up within 72 hours).

  16. Supervises nursing personnel, assures follow-up with any staff concerns, issues, problems, counseling via written report to ADON/DON for further investigation/review.

  17. Assists with orientation and evaluation of nursing personnel. Includes performance reviews.

  18. Participates in family/resident counseling and education.

  19. Responds to call lights and assures timely response from all staff.

  20. Ensures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to resident care.

  21. Accompanies PCP’s in making rounds when needed.

  22. Assure PCP’s and families are notified of changes in residents’ conditions and provide needed education and/or support to residents/families.

  23. On call according to established call schedule.

  24. Attends inservice as assigned.

  25. Regularly exhibits strong commitment to customer services with residents, staff, vendors, and guests.

  26. Works effectively and efficiently with others.

  27. Other duties as assigned/designated by supervisor.

 

 

Educational and Experience Requirements:

 

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing education.

  2. Must have current active, unencumbered RN license in the State of Oregon.

  3. Current BLS CPR certification preferred.

  4. Experience in the care of the geriatric resident as evidenced by previous work experience is preferred.

  5. Experience with the RAI process preferred but not necessary

  6. Must meet Oregon State regulation for Resident Care Managers that mandates successful completion of 3 credit hours or 30 continuing education hours (CEU’s) pertinent to gerontology rehabilitation or long term care; 3 credit hours or 14 CEU’s pertinent to supervision within 9 months of hire.

 

Other Requirements:

 

  1. Has a good working knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations.

  2. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and organize work and care efficiently.

  3. Demonstrated ability in supervising and training nursing team members.

  4. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

  5. Has ability to interact with residents, staff members, families and other guests in a professional manner.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  1. May be exposed to infectious waste and disease (including HBV and HIV).

  2. Moves throughout the nursing facility during the workday.

  3. Must be able to cope with emotional and hostile residents, families, guests, staff and other visitors.

  4. Will be required to work after regular work hours, on holidays, and on weekends.

  5. May be required to lift a minimum of fifty (35 if a resident) pounds.
