We are currently partnering with a leading automotive supplier in the Columbus, OH area, known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and the well-being of its employees.

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team. This is a direct hire position offering a competitive salary ranging from $85k to $125k, based on experience. The EHS Manager will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining Health & Safety, Ergonomic, and Environmental Programs and Systems to ensure a safe and compliant workplace for all employees, contractors, and visitors.


Key Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Human Resources Manager, the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager works independently and confers regularly with division, corporate, contractors, customer, and supplier staff specialists. A valid Driver’s License is required for day travel with the occasional overnight stay. A valid passport is required to attend customer and potential integrator/supplier meetings is necessary. Some day travel and overtime may be required to meet customer expectations. The position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and some of the information in-process can be considered confidential. The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager works in an office environment but may be exposed to some elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant.


Role Summary:

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Health & Safety, Ergonomic and Environmental Programs and Systems for the benefit of all employees, contractors, and visitors. The incumbent will provide guidance and support to the leadership team to ensure implementation and compliance to all health, safety, ergonomic and environmental standards, and legislative requirements. Environmental, Health & Safety Manager has the authority to stop work, behaviors, or acts which are in contravention of legislated regulations.


Key Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Health & Safety and/or Environmental Studies or Ergonomic related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the above disciplines in the automotive or related manufacturing industry.
  • Proficient computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Microsoft Project. Ability to create spreadsheets, and enter, and understand, complex spreadsheets and advanced Excel functions.
  • Must be detail oriented and particularly attentive to producing accurate work.
  • Understanding of plant operations and process flow as related to Health, Safety, Ergonomic and Environmental requirements.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and with a variable workload.
  • Strong organizational, planning, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a maturity of judgement, leadership skills, attention to detail and exceptional organizational, listening, communication and presentation skills in all aspects of the job function.
  • Excellent math skills with the ability to apply to cost and analyze data.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment to meet customer requirements.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with other team members.
  • Able to appreciate and maintain proper level of confidentiality, using discretion and tact.


Additional Information:

  • Effectively works to resolve issues and communicate information pertaining to employee concerns with respect to a Safe and Healthful workplace and Environmental responsibilities and issues.
  • Acts as a resource/consultant to all Leaders to ensure the fair and reasonable implementation and interpretation of governmental legislation, and divisional/Magna policies and procedures.
  • Manages industrial environment aspects of the work site, e.g. all, but not limited to waste/by-product analysis for required disposal, emission discharge approvals, emergency preparedness and response plan, etc.
  • Works with contractors to ensure compliance in environmental/health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Maintains environmental management system, and the health, safety & ergonomic management system (including budgeting requirements) and subsequent company/ISO14001 standards requirements in obtaining and retaining the divisions’ registration/certification. Reports on aspects of the health, safety environmental management system to the management team, i.e. corrective actions, continuous improvement programs.
  • Manages the health and safety/environmental legislative compliance and acts as a liaison with government agencies and corporate, in the interest of the company’s health and safety/environmental affairs.
