Make a difference in the lives of local seniors in Stevensville. Our cooks prepare homemade meals to be delivered to our homebound seniors as well as served at our congregate meals to promote socialization and avoid isolation. This is a permanent part-time position working approximately 22-26 hours a week. Home delivered meals, delivery, and congregate meals are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Working on Tuesday/Friday can be arranged as needed, but is generally not necessary. Travel to other sites and grocery stores is required.
On-the-job training and continuing education opportunities will be provided. Food Safety Manager training will be assigned and must be completed in a timely manner. Restaurant experience is not necessary, but highly preferred. Only the passion for cooking healthy and nutritious meals from scratch and the desire to help our seniors maintain their independence is needed.
Job Duties:
- Check in all shipments, ensuring temperature control and accuracy in products delivered.
- Interpret the monthly menu.
- Notify the Nutrition Supervisor of necessary changes to the menu.
- Manage supplies and inventory, and notify the Nutrition Supervisor and/or Assistant Supervisor of all ordering needs.
- Prepare ingredients following all FDA/USDA guidelines.
- Prepare food for all Home Delivered Meal clients and site congregate meals.
- Ensure the space is clean and sanitary at the end of the shift.
- Check email during shifts.
- Print food labels, route sheets, and more using an on-site computer.
- Enter data into the ServTracker application, used to report numbers to state and federal agencies.
- Ensure all food is clearly labeled and put away at the end of the shift.
- Follow FIFO (first in, first out) rules, disposing of expired or unsafe foods appropriately.
- Prepare cardboard and aluminum cans for recycling.
- This position may be required to shop for immediate needs or items unable to be delivered by the Council’s vendors. Permission should be obtained for any unusual or expensive ingredients.
- This position has a great deal of autonomy and will manage and work with volunteers to ensure exemplary food and amazing customer service.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation is preferred.
- Able to use a wide variety of culinary tools and equipment.
- Valid current driver’s license required.
- Reliable vehicle with proof of full coverage insurance required.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Able to lift up to 50+lbs.

Wage: $14/hr. mileage reimbursement of $0.575/mile
