Job Overview:
We are currently seeking a Railcar Blaster to operate and maintain machinery used to clean, prepare, and process railcars and their components. This position requires experience with forklift operation, material handling, and attention to detail in documenting and weighing inbound and outbound commodities. The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in physically demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate machines and equipment to wash and clean railcars, removing impurities in preparation for repairs, sandblasting, or coating applications.
Drain, clean, and refill tanks or machines at required intervals using water or chemical cleaning solutions.
Measure, mix, and maintain proper chemical concentrations using calibrated tanks, rods, or suction tubes.
Observe machine operation and monitor gauges and thermometers to ensure proper settings and functions.
Set and adjust controls for temperature, cycle duration, and machine functions.
Perform inspections to detect malfunctions and carry out adjustments or light maintenance using hand tools and grease guns.
Safely unload railcars using forklifts or hoists as part of the cleaning preparation process.
Accurately document weights, cleaning procedures, and product handling.
Comply with all safety protocols and federal regulations related to waste disposal and hazardous materials.
Required Skills & Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
Must lift up to 50 lbs independently and team lift up to 150 lbs.
Capable of working in extreme weather conditions and confined spaces.
Comfortable working at elevated heights using appropriate fall protection.
Able to read and interpret basic drawings and scopes of work.
Strong basic math skills (addition and subtraction).
Prior forklift certification or experience strongly preferred.
Additional Requirements:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends if required.
